Heat pump installation in Rotherham
Homeowners looking at an air source heat pump and wanting a proper survey of the home and heat loss before any quote.
About heat pumps
Heat pump installation in Rotherham starts with the house, not the brochure. We survey the property and assess heat loss before quoting, so the system is sized for how you actually heat the rooms and use hot water.
We install air source heat pumps and hold F-gas certification for the refrigerant work that comes with them. Sheffield, Doncaster and Barnsley are covered from the same Rotherham base as our gas heating work.
A heat pump can work with radiators and a hot water cylinder when the system is designed for it. We explain what that means for your home, your comfort and your energy bill in plain English before you decide.
How an air source heat pump warms the house
Five steps from outside air to radiators, hot water and a steadier energy bill.
- 1
Outside air
Usable heat sits in the air, even on a cold day.
- 2
Outdoor unit
The unit concentrates that heat and moves it indoors.
- 3
Radiators & hot water
Warm water feeds the radiators and the hot water cylinder.
- 4
Heat loss survey
We size the system to your house before quoting.
- 5
Steadier energy bills
Right size means less wasted electricity and steadier comfort.
1 · Outside air holds usable heat, even on a cold day
Air source heat pumps for South Yorkshire homes
An air source heat pump takes heat from outside air and uses it to warm the house and the hot water. Even on a cold day there is usable heat in the air; the outdoor unit concentrates it and passes it indoors through a refrigerant circuit.
It is a different layout from a gas boiler. Outdoor space, electrical supply, the existing heating circuit and where the cylinder can sit all matter. We hold F-gas certification for the refrigerant side of the work. Quotes follow a proper survey rather than a phone estimate.
Radiators, hot water and what the survey covers
A heat pump can run with radiators when the emitters and flow temperatures suit the design. Some homes need larger radiators or other changes; others already have a circuit that can work with a carefully sized unit. Guessing that over the phone is how people end up with cold rooms and a system that works harder than it should.
Hot water usually needs a suitable cylinder and controls. The survey is where we check whether your current setup can be adapted or needs altering, then we quote on that basis. Insulation, pipe runs, outdoor unit position and electrical capacity are all part of the same visit.
Energy bills, comfort and getting the size right
A heat pump that is too big or too small for the house costs more to run and feels worse to live with. Oversizing makes the unit cycle on and off; undersizing leaves rooms struggling on the coldest nights. That is why heat loss comes before the quote.
Steady heat across the house matters for everyone who lives there, including young children and older relatives who feel the cold first. We design for the way the rooms are used, not a one-size unit from a price list.
We will not invent running-cost figures over the phone. What we can do is size the system properly, explain the trade-offs, and leave you with controls you understand so you are not heating empty rooms.
Heat pump installation across South Yorkshire
Based in Rotherham, we cover Sheffield, Doncaster and Barnsley for heat pump surveys and installs. Call 07932 552087 for a clear next step.
If you need cooling for individual rooms rather than whole-home heating, see our air conditioning work. The two jobs use related skills and F-gas certification, but the survey and the kit are different.
How heat pumps works, step by step
Survey the home
We look at insulation, existing radiators, hot water demand and where an outdoor unit can sit.
Heat loss and quote
A heat loss assessment comes before the quote, so the system is matched to the property rather than guessed.

What it costs
Heat pump cost depends on heat loss, emitters, electrics and whether the existing system can stay. We survey before quoting and do not invent running-cost figures over the phone.

Yes. We install air source heat pumps from our Rotherham base and cover Sheffield, Doncaster and Barnsley as well.
Yes. We assess the property and heat loss before quoting, so the system is sized to the house rather than guessed over the phone.
Often yes, when the radiators and flow temperatures suit the design. Some homes need larger emitters or other changes. The survey is where we check that properly.
A well-sized system matched to the house and how you use heat is the foundation. We do not invent bill figures over the phone. We survey, size carefully and explain the trade-offs before you decide.
Yes. We hold F-gas certification for the refrigerant work involved in heat pump installation.
Every 12 months, under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, and there is no grace period. A record that expired yesterday is a breach. You can book up to two months before expiry and keep your original renewal date, which is the simplest way to avoid a gap. The tenant must have a copy within 28 days, or before a new tenant moves in, and you need to keep records for two years.
Nine times out of ten it is a frozen condensate pipe. A condensing boiler produces acidic water that has to drain away, and where that pipe runs outside it can freeze solid, at which point the boiler shuts down on a fault rather than flooding itself. Thawing it gets you going again the same day. Lagging it with external-grade insulation, increasing the pipe diameter or re-routing it to an internal drain is what stops it happening every winter.
Three things, and they often save you a visit. Is there a fault code showing on the boiler display, what does the pressure gauge read when the system is cold, and does gas still work elsewhere in the house, such as the hob. Tell us those three answers along with the make and rough age of the boiler and there is a much better chance we arrive with the right part on the van.
On a new installation you have no choice: an in-line filter has been required under Building Regulations Part L since 2022, and BS 7593 expects one on all systems. On an existing system it is still worth fitting. The filter collects magnetite before it reaches the pump and heat exchanger, and it only keeps working if the magnet stack is actually removed and purged at each annual service rather than glanced at.
